Mel Norton

Residential adviser for Guides and Rangers

A little background information…

I’ve been in Guiding since I was a Brownie and have 25 years service as a Guide leader in Bourne District. I hold an (old style) large camps licence and a international endorsement. I served my term as Disctirct Commissioner during covid! I also have my own little Brownie who’s nearly Guide!

Why did you take on this role? and what lies ahead?

I love having adventures with Guiding and never ask the young members to do anything I wouldn’t try myself. Providing them with opportunities to try new things in new places is really important to me. Helping to facilitate adventures for our County members is what I’m here for!

Tell us your favourite Guiding memory…

Oh that’s a tricky one! There have been lots… one is from the best day ever in Switzerland 2010 celebrating the Centenary by building giant snow-ladies and sledging with binbags!
