Let’s have an adventure…

International Opportunities are available for everyone from Brownie age up to and including adults in Girlguiding. There are even opportunities for all of your young members to get involved in international adventures in your weekly meetings!
There are plenty of organised events that you can attend or why not even organise a trip yourself. You’ll need your Going Away With to take young members away – find out more information on achieving your qualification here.

Leaders and young members can also apply to attend International Opportunities organised by County or by Region contact our County International Adviser to find out more.

GOLD

(Guiding Overseas Linked with Development)

Make a Difference Across the World with Girlguiding. GOLD volunteers are aged between 18 and 30 and work alongside local Guides in developing countries on a wide range of community projects.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for guiding members to travel overseas, improve their skills, experience an amazing new culture and know that they’re having a long-term impact!
The National GOLD trips are about enabling young women to develop their potential and make a difference in the world. Every trip is different but they all share a common purpose, the develop the participants whilst carrying out some form of local community project in the area they’re visiting. These projects range from leadership skills training to delivering advocacy programmes to young women. They’re sustainable projects making sure that the participants leave behind a legacy. Find out more here

To start your GOLD journey, you need to attend the Go for GOLD selection weekend. This happens once per year, normally in September/October and the dates are published on the Girlguiding Main website when confirmed.

WAGGGS

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is the largest voluntary Movement dedicated to girls and young women in the world.

They deliver programmes in five WAGGGS Regions: Africa, Arab, Asia Pacific, Europe and Western Hemisphere. They also hold advocacy and leadership events at five World Centres: Our Chalet in Switzerland, Sangam in India, Pax Lodge in the UK, Our Cabaña in Mexico and Kusafiri, our World Centre travelling around Africa.

Our young members will help deliver innovative non-formal education programmes, leadership development, advocacy work and community action, empowering girls and young women to develop the skills and confidence needed to make positive changes in their lives, in their communities and countries.

WAGGGS has a wide range of opportunities available to the members of it’s Member Organisations, including those within Girlguiding. These opportunities include roles such as volunteering within the World Centres, as well as home based roles and being part of their Core Mission. Applications are via the WAGGGS website and you will need your local Commissioner to provide you with a reference so it’s worth chatting through your ideas with them before applying.

Girlguiding have opportunities for adult members through the discoveradventure.com website. There are some adventures just for Girlguiding members, or you can look at the open adventures too.

Volunteer for an international adventure

There are a number of international camps and jamborees all over the world, including in the UK and abroad. Each one couldn’t happen without a dedicated team of volunteers. There are roles for those able to help during the event, as well as more in-depth roles that support planning and delivery. So whatever your availability, there is something for everyone. These camps are truly where some of the most amazing friendships can be made and once you’ve been to one, you’ll be hooked!
